While appearing on the New Heights podcast, hosted by brothers Jason and Travis Kelce, Keanu Reeves found out that he had nearly missed out on a major role to former president Barack Obama.
The actor was surprised when the hosts told him that Ben Stiller had originally considered someone else for his part in the hit Apple TV+ series “Severance“.
Reeves narrates the animated video of the building “Lumon Is Listening” in the show’s second season, lending his calm and soothing voice to persuade the company’s employees to follow corporate rules and give up on rebellion.
Upon learning that Obama was the first choice, Reeves made the hosts laugh with his reaction, saying he didn’t mind since the job went to him in the end: “Barack probably said no, and then I became the second option.”

Stiller, the creator of “Severance“, had previously mentioned in interviews that he had invited the former president to make an appearance in the series, but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible. According to him, Obama responded with a kind message.
According to Stiller, Obama’s message said: “Hey Ben, big fan of the show, loved the first season, can’t wait for the second. I just don’t think I have time in my schedule to make it happen,” he recounted.
